Though I am not running very long distances (I usually run 2.5-3 miles right now at a very slow place), I am determined to keep up my running throughout the winter time. I have already competed in two 5ks this fall and I plan on running in 2-3 more before it gets too cold.
I think that weight lifting is an important aspect of exercise, but we should not neglect running. We need to keep our heart and lungs strong. Weight lifting and running have a synergistic relationship-- we should pair them together for maximum well-being. The best part about running is that feeling of accomplishment when you finish. The rush of endorphins that make you feel confident in yourself. That's a powerful tool and I am happy I have started up running again to make it a bright way to finish my days. Whether the weather is good or not in your town, devote a couple days a week to running. Even if it isn't far or it is slow, it doesn't matter. Build up your endurance and revel in the marvelous effects running incurs. Oh and don't go for the sidewalks. Pick a nature path or trail. And tag a friend along for more motivation. And when you are done, don't forget to stretch or use a rumble roller. Have fun!
