Another thing I have recently altered is Intermittent Fasting (IF). Now that I feel my body is fat adapted, my hunger signals are very accurate so I don't feel the need to push my body through a 16-hour fast if it is asking for food. If it asks for food after 14 hours (which I feel is enough time for digestion to complete from the meal the night before and also to increase insulin sensitivity) then I start with my fruit snack. My energy levels are less drained by not waiting out the fast to excruciating levels and I don't find myself trying to make up my caloric needs in an 8-hour restrained eating window every single day. I think for women, IF is something that must be carefully adapted and not forced upon our bodies. I think a 14-16 hour fasting window is optimum for women, unless there body isn't asking for food (in that case, extend it!). But really what I have gained from all of this is to listen to our bodies and eat when hungry. By doing this, I have satiated my body at the correct times and avoided over-eating, which can happen a lot on a Paleo diet where we don't get as full from the whole foods we are consuming. Actually because I have been following my cravings so well, my appetite has actually significantly decreased and now I am finding myself forcing workouts so that I can gain an appetite again!
On a last note, if you are like me and get absolutely starving before meals or as they are getting prepared (for me this is the frustration when something is taking forever on the grill and I have to wait for my family to eat!) then I highly suggest finding a vegetable source to snack on before. For me this can vary from carrots, to brussel sprouts (lightly steamed these suckers are great finger food!), to raw coconut flesh. This will lightly fill you up and won't allow you to over-eat on dinner since it takes our brains about thirty minutes to receive the "I'm full' signal anyways. Eating mindfully can also ease over-eating as I covered in this post.
Anyways, this is my update on what I have been doing with my body and experimenting. Let me know if you all have any questions. I'd be happy to answer!
