Solving Secondary Amenorrhea and Healing My Life
Wow I can't believe I am finally writing this article. I drafted this article a couple years ago and was never able to publish it since I never healed completely. Today I am going to give you my story with secondary amenorrhea and how I finally solved it. Feel free to email me for personal questions or ask in the comments, but remember that I am not a doctor and you should always consult one first before making a major change to your health regimen.
A lot of my friends have come to me asking what they should do to start off their new year healthy or what foods should be "cut out". I've also seen a lot of folks following the Whole30 diet for the month (which is a strict elimination diet, if you are not familiar). While this is great and may very well get several people back on track with their eating, it seems too temporary for me. Eating shouldn't be a "diet", it should be a part of our lives, a part of our being we work at every day to feel healthful and light. So instead of focusing on "cutting out" everything and being super strict, we should all just turn our attention to foods we know are energizing and can be made delicious for satiety and a happy body. That way, our way of eating doesn't just have to last through January, but can become a continuous journey for the rest of the year. It should become a goal we work at every day, but don't kill ourselves if we don't achieve every single day. And it shouldn't just be eating that we are focusing on to nourish our bodies. We should make sure we are getting in some sunlight and activity when our bodies crave it, even if just a ten minute walk around the corner. We should be sleeping enough and on a regular schedule. We should be relishing yoga, which is great for the body and stretching, but also a mind relaxant, something many of us need during these busy months. And most importantly, we should be sharing our life with family and friends we love (we thrive as social beings, after all). So just because everyone seems to be focusing on the food this month, doesn't mean we should restrict forget about the other activities we should be performing to nourish our bodies...
